I began riding at the age of 7 in Lakenheath, England and got my first pony, Sam, at age 8.
Samantha and I competed in the local Gymkhanas and Show jumping events. In 1976 my father was transferred to Zweibrucken, Germany. We brought the pony
with us and boarded her at a Trakehner breeding facility. I was fortunate to have participated
in the daily training program with Peter Neumuller. Sam and I then competed successfully in dressage
and show jumping. In 1979 we returned to the US, moving to Florida where
I bought a horse for eventing, and competed throughout the southeast, spending the summers working with eventing
great Jim Graham. At the time I cliniced regularly with Olympic
Gold Medalist Tad Coffin. In 1984 I moved to South Carolina
where I began focusing on only dressage and began training with recognized judge (S) Scott Peterson. I
also attended clinics including Charles de Kunffy and Kaye Smarslic. During this time
I attended college at the University of South Carolina and worked as a licensed insurance agent. In
1996 I relocated to the Atlanta area where I trained with popular judge and trainer Leslie
O’Neil Olsen, and cliniced with others including Christopher Hickey. In 1998, thanks
to good friend Johan Knoppert , I traveled to the Netherlands for a month
to train with the late international Grand Prix rider Els Jansen. Upon returning
to Atlanta I began riding with Jules Anderson USDF Gold Medalist,
who had qualified for the Australian Olympic Team, but sadly was unable to compete due to the unfortunate lameness of her
fabulous grand prix horse “Goodwood”. During this time Jules was kind enough to allow me to learn and compete
on Goodwood. This is when I earned my USDF Bronze, Silver & Gold Medals. I rode and worked
with Jules for seven years while managing my own student program specializing in improving dressage for event riders.
While with Jules at Teamwork Dressage I showed many horses which included competing
V-Frolic at the FEI four year old national championships in Kentucky. In 2003 I broke both my legs falling off a 3 year old but continued to teach while rehabilitating. Although
I was unable to ride, while recuperating I accepted a director of eventing position for the equestrian program at The
Darlington School in Rome GA. In 2004 I purchased a young colt named “Wango
Tango”. During 2006 I began riding again and cliniced with Conrad Schumacher, Col. Axel Steiner, Libby
Anderson, Lisa Wilcox and travelled to Maryland to train briefly with Scott
Hassler. I am currently campaigning the now 7 year old Wango Tango, and teaching at
many barns in the metro Atlanta area including Moonlight Equestrian Center, Foxberry Riding Academy, Rose Equestrian Center
and Westbrooke Farms among other private facilities. |
